Marvin E. Reed, 47 of 408 Alpha St., departed this life on Saturday, May 8, 2004 at his home. He had been in declining health for several months. He was born September 26, 1956 to the late Irving R. and Olive (Redd) Reed.
Marvin was a 1975 graduate of Waynesboro High School. He attended Virginia State University in Petersburg, Va. and Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va. where he was affiliated with the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.
Marvin was employed at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio until his retirement in 1995.
Marvin was known throughout this area for his beautiful tenor voice. Marvin was a member of the Waynesboro Choral Society, and he has toured with recording artists The Manhattans and The Main Ingredient.
Marvin was a member of the Mt. Marine Baptist Church and a member of the Senior and Gospel Choir, which he directed for a number of years.
Marvin is survived by twin daughters, Brooke and Michelle Johnson of Staunton, Va.; four brothers, Irving Reed Jr. (Shirleyo) Columbus, Ohio, William M. Reed (Doris Jean) Harrisonburg, Va., Lester D. Reed (Michelle) Frankfort, Ohio and Steven C. Reed of Philadelphia, Pa.; four sisters, Merle Spencer (George), Arlette Woodson (Ernest) of Waynesboro, Sherry Ware (Leroy) and Crystal Reed of Atlanta, Ga.; one uncle, Wallace Redd of Waynesboro; two aunts, Loretta White of Waynesboro and Phyllis Wallace of New Jersey, a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday (May 12, 2004) at Mt. Marine Baptist Church with Rev. Ralph Williams, Rev. Joseph Walker and Rev. Michael Turner.
A private burial will be held, prior to the memorial service, at the Riverview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
